Summary | A new strain of microalgae called D. globosus-HI was isolated from the Himalayan region in Northern India. Both morphological and molecular analyses were carried out to identify the strain. TLC and HPLC analysis was carried out to reveal that the isolated strain D. globosus-HI accumulates astaxanthin. The study assessed the growth and production of astaxanthin by the new strain in seven different media. The results showed that the highest level of astaxanthin (391.00 mg/L) was observed in D. globosus-HI, which is higher than any other known potential source of algal astaxanthin. |
